61 is a fascinating number.
Let me explain.
The most obvious 61 in sports is the number of home runs Roger Maris hit in 1961 to surpass Babe Ruth’s regular-season single-season home run record.
In fact, three baseball players have played more than ten years in the major leagues and worn #61 as a jersey number – Bronson Arroyo, Chan Ho Park and Livan Hernandez.
The number 61 has been used in NASCAR races for a time, with the most famous driver associated with it being “the Rapid Roman” Richie Evans, who won several NASCAR Modified championships while sporting that number on his door frame.
61 is also the alternate nickname of “rotation” billiards, where points are scored based on the ball number pocketed. The first person to reach 61 points will have won the game, as there would be no way for his opponent to pocket the correct number of balls to surpass.
61 is the only two-digit number that, if you arrange 61 items in a square, or in a hexagon, or in a decagon, you can always place one of those objects directly in the center of your arrangement.

On the periodic table of the elements, Prometium is represented by the atomic number 61.
In music, the most famous 61 out there is Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited.”
Oh yeah … and as of yesterday …
I just joined the 61 club. As in 61 years old.
Nice.
When I tuned 61 – MANY years ago – the only way I could recall my age involved the other Roger, Maris of course. HB, young man.
